Our Firm

Independent counsel. Executive perspective.

We work alongside leaders carrying consequential responsibility, bringing commercial rigour, governance discipline and practical judgement to moments that demand clarity.

The firm

Built for the point where complexity, risk and opportunity converge.

Meridian Black is an independent strategic advisory and market development firm working with Boards, corporations, governments, and senior executives.

We are deliberately practical. Our advice is shaped by direct executive experience across complex operating environments and by a clear understanding that strategy has value only when it can be translated into confident decisions, disciplined execution and sustainable performance.

Leadership

Experience that reaches beyond the Boardroom.

Ikky Khan is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Black, an independent strategic advisory and market development firm working with Boards, corporations, governments, and senior executives at the point where complexity, risk, and opportunity converge.

Across more than two decades in executive and commercial leadership, Ikky has founded and built enterprises, and led and transformed complex organisations across national and international markets.

Ikky's responsibilities have encompassed commercial portfolios approaching a quarter of a billion dollars in annual revenue, multi-site and safety-critical operations, large workforces, and high-stakes environments in which growth, risk, public accountability, and organisational trust must be managed together.

Ikky's experience spans entertainment, telecommunications, healthcare, emergency response, insurance, logistics, education, and FMCG, with a record of leading growth, transformation, and complex stakeholder environments across private, government, and not-for-profit sectors.

Through Meridian Black, Ikky advises on governance, CEO and Board transitions, enterprise psychosocial risk, organisational transformation, scalable growth, government engagement, strategic partnerships, and international market entry. Ikky is known for translating complexity into clear decisions, aligning people with strategy, and converting strategic intent into disciplined execution and measurable commercial outcomes.

Ikky's approach combines commercial rigour with ethical leadership and a strong sense of stewardship. Ikky believes that the strongest organisations do more than perform. They earn trust, strengthen the communities around them and build a legacy that endures.

Ikky is an Associate of the Governance Institute of Australia and holds qualifications in business management, global leadership, and Board governance.

Karen Vo-Khan is the Chief Revenue Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Black, where she leads the firm's commercial growth agenda and holds executive responsibility for translating strategy into revenue, market presence, and enduring client partnerships.

Karen's remit spans revenue strategy, product development and commercialisation, strategic partnerships, brand development, and go-to-market execution.

As Deputy CEO, Karen also provides leadership across the firm's broader operating priorities, strengthening the discipline and capability required for sustainable scale.

Karen brings more than two decades of experience across commercial leadership, full P&L accountability, channel and sales development, customer-centric strategy, and complex stakeholder engagement across healthcare, retail, media, and government.

Before joining Meridian Black, Karen spent more than 12 years with St John Ambulance Australia (NSW), culminating in her appointment as National Business Manager – Retail. Karen led the growth and performance of the organisation's statewide and national retail channels, strengthened distribution and strategic partnerships. Under her leadership, the channel consistently contributed 25 per cent of the organisation's revenue.

During the disruption of the COVID-19 period, channel performance increased by 92 per cent between 2020 and 2021. Karen's commercial success and business acumen were recognised when she was named Employee of the Year in 2022.

Earlier in her career, Karen spent almost seven years with Fairfax Media, progressing through sales, account management, agency partnerships, and business development. Karen managed and grew major agency accounts across MyCareer's digital and print portfolio, advised clients on workforce marketing and engagement, and built trusted relationships with government clients, advertising agencies, major corporates, and senior decision-makers.

Karen's subsequent service with the Australian Government's Department of Immigration and Border Protection broadened her understanding of regulated environments, procedural discipline, and public accountability.

Karen holds a Graduate Certificate in Digital Marketing from the University of Technology Sydney, a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies in Psychology and Marketing from Swinburne University of Technology, and a Diploma of Business Management. Her commercial judgement is strengthened by a sophisticated understanding of consumer behaviour, brand affinity, and the human factors that shape organisational performance and drive consumer loyalty.

Karen's appetite for challenge extends beyond business. She has completed the world-renowned trek to Everest Base Camp and climbed Mount Fuji, one of Japan's most iconic landmarks. Those experiences reflect the qualities she brings to leadership: courage, meticulous preparation, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving when conditions become difficult.

Our values

The principles that shape how we advise, decide and act.

These are not abstract statements. They are the standards by which we judge our conduct, our relationships and the consequence of our work.

01

Trust

We earn confidence through discretion, candour, sound judgement and consistency between what we say and what we do.

02

Loyalty

We stand with our clients and our people, particularly when circumstances are difficult and principled counsel matters most.

03

Unity

We bring people, perspectives and purpose together so that alignment becomes a source of strength rather than a constraint.

04

Success

We define success by meaningful outcomes: stronger decisions, sustainable performance and capability that endures beyond the engagement.

05

Legacy

We consider the consequence of today's choices and help build organisations that leave people, markets and communities stronger.
